I am interested in learning some basic tamazight Berber language- any English web based courses? Would this be useful for tourism? Already speak some standard Arabic, Spanish and French, but still struggled some in rural areas during last Morocco visit 20 years ago Any means by which you can communicate with more people I suppose would be "useful for tourism", but I've found in the parts of Morocco that are predominately Berber that in the absence of being able to roll out your "chellha" French is fairly widely understood.
I remember trying to communicate with the hotel staff at this one place in Kelaa M'Gouna and they asked if I spoke French because they didn't understand darija! Thanks, I was able to find a Tamazight beginner language course cd-rom with i-pod interactive software, but anticipate being able to use French TripAdvisor staff removed this post because it did not meet TripAdvisor's forum guideline limiting each user to a single forums screen name.

I assisted recently at a humanitarian project in some small Berber villages in the southern region of Morocco and our French and Arabic translators were completely lost. The only one who was of great help was a university student from Meknes who is of Berber extraction.
He speaks it fluently and was the only one who understood anything being said down there! This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.
