Lansing Police are going undercover to target customers of the world's oldest profession. Special Operations officers carry out prostitution stings on a regular basis. As part of the operation, they focus on "Johns," the men who offer women money, in exchange for sex.
One of the main arteries into the city has a long-standing reputation for prostitution. Kalamazoo street is bustling with cars, families on the move, and people selling their bodies for cash. She says she's constantly kicking prostitutes off her property to keep them away from her customers. They're everywhere. I know a lot of them by name. In the neighborhoods, parents are concerned about their children being exposed to prostitution.
Bernardo Guzman has three sons. He doesn't want them to see the transactions out on the streets. They just simply walk up and down Kalamazoo street.
Nicole Bell lives in the area and has three young girls. It makes me nervous especially raising girls. I don't even want them to see that or be around it. Lansing Police say the prostitution problem is stubborn.
That's why they're constantly executing undercover operations to try to stop it. Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski says people who live in the neighborhoods deserve a better quality of life. Over the last month, LPD has held several prostitution sting operations along the Kalamazoo corridor from downtown all the way to US Officers arrested more than 20 people.
